Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on the
19th of January 1946 in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was the daughter of
Avie Lee Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a domestic
worker and Parton is a farmer of the tobacco. She was on Knoxville TV at 12
years old. At 13 she was recording on the label of a small company, and
performing at the Grand Ole Opry. She graduated from high school in 1964, and
then moved to Nashville for her country music journey. She became a fan of Carl
Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving company. They were married on May 30 in 1966,
and remain together. In 1967 , her vocals caught the attention of Porter
Wagoner, who hired her to perform on his program, The Porter Wagoner Show
(1961). She remained on the show for 7 years, their duets went viral, and she
appeared with his band at the Grand Ole Opry; she also toured and sold records.
Her smash hit "Joshua" that reached number one in 1970, was her
biggest hit single. She made the decision to go on her own while she recorded
duets with him. She separated from him to pursue her own career in 1974. Dolly
was a popular songwriter and singer. Dolly received numerous Country Music
Association awards (1968 1970, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1976). The diminutive
(5'0") beauty was an easy fit for television. The mid-1970s saw her
becoming a regular on TV. she was appearing regularly on TV specials, talk
shows, and was even having her own Dolly (1976). Dolly was awarded her first
Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here
You Come Again". Dolly's first film appearance was in the movie 9-to-5
(1980) and she earned an Oscar nomination for her song title and Grammy awards
2 and 3. She also received Grammy awards 2, 3, Best Country Song and Best Female
Country Vocal Performance, for the song "Nine To Five." The fame
continued to grow with her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
(1982) as well as Rhinestone (1984), with the song "Tennessee Homesick
Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire, worth $100 million.
In 1986, she established Dollywood, a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon
Forge. This was to honor her Smoky Mountain childhood. She was a character in
Dolly, the Dolly (1987) television series. In 1988, she was awarded another Grammy:
Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals for "Trio".
